Mechanical Engineering Analyst

Denver, CO - Full Time

Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. is looking for a Mechanical Engineering Analyst to join our team in Centennial, CO. Participate as part of a dynamic team in the engineering analysis, condition assessment, and life prediction of pressure vessels, piping, and auxiliary equipment used in upstream, downstream petroleum refining, petrochemical, and chemical industries. The position requires the individual to develop the skills to manage and coordinate the technical and administrative aspects of the work. They are expected to actively participate in both internal and external training and development programs.

Technical:

  • Assist senior staff with evaluations related to design, life assessment, and root cause failure analysis of pressure vessels, piping, and other equipment
  • Perform thermal heat transfer and structural stress analysis of pressure vessels, piping systems, rotating equipment, and other plant structures using both classic and finite element analysis methods. Knowledge in fluid mechanics is preferred.
  • Perform simple pressure vessel calculations using commercial software such as PV-Elite and/or Compress
  • Develop a working knowledge of fatigue, corrosion, and crack initiation and growth mechanisms and fracture mechanics concepts employed for serviceability assessment of damaged or flawed components.
  • Gain broad experience with materials, welding, and nondestructive examination techniques.
  • Assist with field inspections of plant equipment.
  • Assist with the preparation of written technical reports and presentations.
  • Assist in fast paced engineering assessments that are project critical.

  • Perform all work in accordance with SIA’s Commercial Quality Procedures and with an acute awareness of client requests
  • Be aware of new business opportunities and work with senior staff to pursue as appropriate
  • Learn and implement all applicable standard SIA policies and procedures

Project Management

  • Support project managers in execution of large-scale projects
  • Develop the skills to independently manage small-scale projects
  • Ensure quality and enhance job skills by seeking peer review and appraisal
  • Be financially responsible and adhere to company guidelines with respect to expenses, purchases, and project execution

Education and Experience:

  • B. S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or similar discipline
  • ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Design Experience is a plus
  • Knowledge of SolidWorks CAD software, Abaqus FE software, and general fracture mechanics concepts. Piping stress analyses experience using CAESAR II is a plus
  • Computer Programming experience is a plus
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential, as well as a working knowledge of computer software including Microsoft Office
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals in Engineering (FE) examination is a plus


Expected pay rate for Colorado: $72,200 - $80,200 depending on experience.
