Structural Integrity Associates, Inc. (SIA), an engineering consulting firm dedicated to the analysis and prevention of mechanical and structural failures in various industries, is seeking a candidate for a Metallurgical Engineering Consultant position to provide metallurgical and failure analysis services.
The successful candidate will be based in SIA’s Material Science Center in Austin, Texas. This position requires a B.S. degree in metallurgy or materials engineering and 15 years of experience related to metallurgical failure analysis consulting services. Project management experience and detailed knowledge of destructive laboratory testing, metallography, and microscopy related to power generation and general industrial component failures are desired. Candidates should either have a PE license or have an identified path toward PE licensure. This is a laboratory-based position with occasional technical support on field projects that SI conducts in power generation and similar facilities, with potential for advancement to include management responsibilities.
General duties for this position are as follows:
Review client needs related to failed or damaged metal components (tubing, pipes, pump and valve components, turbine components, mechanical devices, and various other industrial equipment components)
Develop proposals for providing condition assessment or failure analysis services.
Manage metallurgical laboratory projects through coordination of work scopes, interacting with lab technicians, reviewing and interpreting results, and preparing reports to provide findings and recommendations.
Provide materials support to assist SI’s experienced teams of engineering staff that
Provide consulting services to nuclear, fossil, and renewable energy clients.
Manage root cause analysis investigation
Provide asset management and condition assessment services
