Description:
This role leads the Nuclear Vibration team, managing day-to-day operations, providing hands-on technical oversight, and ensuring the team meets its goals for project delivery and utilization. The Manager supports a broad portfolio of projects across the nuclear, oil & gas, mining, and industrial energy sectors. This includes both traditional systems and advanced nuclear technologies, such as small modular reactors (SMRs) and other non-light water reactor designs.
This position requires strong practical experience in designing and executing field testing programs, analyzing vibration data, and solving complex mechanical and structural challenges. The Manager will also play a key role in mentoring junior staff, supporting business development efforts, and ensuring the successful execution of instrumentation and vibration troubleshooting projects.

The exact pay for this position will be commensurate with experience and location. For Denver, CO, the expected salary range is $116,240 to $174,360.

Primary Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate daily operations of the Vibration team
- Provide technical oversight for consulting projects, ensuring quality and timely execution
- Perform vibration assessments of piping systems, rotating equipment, and structural components
- Execute field instrumentation and data acquisition programs, including sensor setup and signal analysis
- Diagnose performance issues in mechanical systems and develop repair or mitigation strategies
- Develop and maintain custom vibration testing tools and in-house software
- Oversee work performed by other engineers and support effective project execution
- Mentor and guide junior staff in technical growth and professional development
- Support employee development through goal setting and performance reviews
- Participate in testing and analysis programs for advanced reactor technologies and oil & gas, mining, and broader industrial energy markets.
- Drive and support opportunities with new and existing clients across energy and industrial markets, managing the full sales cycle from lead generation and proposal development through contracting and execution.
- Establishes and drives achievement of team utilization targets—a key performance metric—by actively generating and managing project opportunities.
Required Skills/Qualifications:
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in vibration testing, failure analysis, or dynamic system assessments
- Familiarity with rotating equipment, piping systems, and associated vibration signals
- Hands-on experience with field instrumentation and data acquisition in industrial environments
- Proficient in writing technical reports and proposals with strong verbal and written communication skills
- Skilled in programming or scripting (e.g., MATLAB, LabVIEW, Python)
- Ability to lead and deliver engineering consulting projects independently
- Willingness to travel up to 40% based on project and client needs
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Vibration Institute Certification (Level III or higher)
- Experience troubleshooting complex vibration issues in mechanical or structural systems
- Proficiency in finite element analysis (FEA) using ANSYS, Abaqus, or equivalent software
- Familiarity with advanced instrumentation techniques (e.g., high-temperature strain gauges, high-speed data capture, wireless sensors)
- Experience with ASME Codes and standards (e.g., Section III, O&M Guidelines), API 579-1 / ASME FFS-1 Level 3 assessments and/or DNV methods
- Experience managing project scope, schedule, and budget with multidisciplinary teams
- Technical contributions to advanced nuclear systems (e.g., SMRs, Gen IV, microreactors)
- Licensed Professional Engineer
